Angle valves from the global market leader:
The right solution for any application

7-minute read

The first milestone for SCHELL as a new company was the production of angle valves, which started in 1949. To date, over 700 million have been fitted worldwide – this SCHELL original product is installed every two seconds. In 2018, SCHELL was even recognised as the global market leader in this product segment. Time and again, we launch new technical innovations on the market or adapt our products to accommodate changing requirements. Such as our angle valve, for example.

Twist and done – ideal for maintenance and replacement work

SCHELL angle valves couldn’t be easier to shut off – such as in the case of repairs, maintenance or replacing a fitting: simply turn the operating handle clockwise until the angle valve is closed and water can no longer flow through it. Wash basin taps can now be easily dismantled, serviced or repaired. The valve is always easy to open, regulate and close thanks to a grease chamber, which protects the brass spindle against limescale deposits.

Easy control after simple installation

Controlling water flow is also easy with SCHELL angle valves. SCHELL regulating angle valves are not only able to adjust the flow volumes of cold and hot water but can also compensate for differences in pipe pressures.

SCHELL regulating angle valves have a sound level of <20 dB(A) with a flow pressure of 3 bar over their full adjustment range, which works to keep the level of noise continuously low and unobtrusive. Another major advantage is that, when optimally adjusted, water consumption can be cut by up to 40 percent, which also reduces harmful carbon emissions resulting from hot water generation. In addition, angle valves with a self-sealing connection thread (ASAG easy) make installation much easier. The patented ASAG easy connection thread allows the simple fitting of angle valves without time-consuming roughing or the use of hemp as a sealant. The advantages are obvious: quick fitting without additional materials, hygienic installation without supplementary sealants and hand-tightening that is about 30 percent easier.

Detachable connections to fittings

The special brass cone compression with length compensation ensures a safe, quick connection between the angle valve and copper pipes or flexible hoses can be made without any difficulties. On angle valves without a compression connection, the angle valve is connected to flexible hoses using a union nut and flat gasket.

Good to know: The push rod on the angle valve shaft and the push rosette compensate for any installation errors of up to 18 mm. Alongside the standard push rosette (Ø 54 mm), larger rosettes (Ø 65 mm) are also available, to compensate for less-than-perfect tiling. This ensures fitting work can be finished off tidily without any off-putting visual distractions.

SCHELL sampling angle valve – our responsibility for health

Bacteria – such as Legionella – in drinking water are considered even more critical than dirt particles. Accordingly, drinking water legislation in Germany applying to buildings with large drinking water heating systems prescribes regular microbiological testing for Legionella for public or commercial drinking water installations. Specifically, the applicable drinking water safety laws require the regular and systemic testing of drinking water for Legionella in hot water installations. Suitable sampling valves must be installed for these tests.

Drinking water samples must be taken as specified by DIN ISO 19458. An adequate number of sampling sites for these tests must also be installed in the sanitary facilities – this is specified by the German Drinking Water Ordinance. Incidentally, these requirements also apply to existing buildings. The practical SCHELL sampling angle valve meets all of the requirements for the systemic testing of drinking water within sanitary facilities.

SCHELL’s angle valve thermostat – the universal choice

The SCHELL angle valve thermostat offers reliable anti-scalding protection. This is especially important in high risk applications such as nursery schools, residential homes or hospitals. After all, high temperatures are especially dangerous for people who cannot respond quickly to sudden dangers. Alongside the immediate risk of damage to skin from hot water, risks also arise – especially when showering – when trying to get out of harm’s way. This can result in falls and other injuries.

In addition, the angle valve thermostat not only ensures safe drinking water hygiene by supporting thermal disinfection, but its practical design also means it offers easy, space-saving installation even in scenarios where the available space is at a premium. This is made possible because the three outlet connectors are not arranged behind one another. Outlets are also colour-coded to ensure the correct connection of the cold and hot water lines. The angle valve thermostat guarantees a constant outlet temperature – regardless of pressure fluctuations and even if the cold water supply fails. The desired temperature can also be altered as required.

SCHELL COMFORT PT angle valve with temperature sensor

By adding a temperature sensor, we’ve made our standard angle valve fit for the future. Especially in the warm summer months, temperatures much higher than 25 °C can also start to be found in the cold water supply if water is not exchanged regularly – presenting ideal conditions for the growth of harmful bacteria. First and foremost among these pathogens is Legionella, which can cause a form of severe pneumonia.

But this danger can be avoided: the temperature sensor constantly measures the water temperature and forwards the readings to the SCHELL SWS Water Management System. By controlling water quantities, hygiene flushes and thermal disinfections, SCHELL’s SWS supports the centralised networking and control of all SCHELL electronic fittings in a building, so as to ensure the hygienic and efficient operation of the drinking water installation at all times. This helps operators to comply with regulations such as the German VDI 6023.

A familiar design – timeless and functional

The right solution, whatever the decor: All SCHELL angle valves are designed according to the principle of functional aesthetics, and characterised by their high-quality, elegant and timeless appearance. Thanks to their minimalist contours, they blend in harmoniously with any type of sanitary facility. SCHELL’s portfolio also offers designer angle valves – with matching siphon and wash basin outlet valve – for customers looking for that special aesthetic appeal.
