A new kind of precision: the ToF sensor technology used in SCHELL’s E² faucet series
The latest E² faucet generation from SCHELL features a sensor technology that controls the flow of water more precisely, more comfortably and with less sensitivity to accidental triggering than ever before. Thanks to the modern time-of-flight (ToF) sensor technology, using the XERIS E², CELIS E² and PURIS E² wash basin faucets is supremely comfortable and efficient – even while wearing high-vis vests.
How the time-of-flight sensor technology works
The time-of-flight (ToF) sensor built into the new E² faucet series makes use of the physical principle of ‘time-of-flight measurement’. This involves recording the time that an outbound pulse of light needs to return back to the sensor from an object – such as the user’s hands. The sensor then uses this period of time to calculate the distance in real time and can start or stop the flow of water once the range is correctly configured.
This process not only makes operating the faucet extremely reliable and very precise but also renders it insensitive to external influences such as reflections or changing light conditions. The end result is precise control that is resistant to accidental operation – even when wearing high-vis vests. Ensuring that the E² faucet generation offers a significant bonus to user comfort.
E² faucet series with ToF sensor: the perfect choice for public sanitary facilities
The new E² faucet generation and the ToF sensor technology were specially developed to meet the requirements of public sanitary facilities – in all locations and for all users. With E², SCHELL sets the standards to follow for electronic wash basin faucets when it comes to forward-looking technologies and usability.
Greater comfort with trouble-free triggering of the flow of water
The reliable ToF technology not only ensures smooth and easy operation but significantly improves user comfort: any accidental triggering that occurred as a result of reflected light or from wearing high-vis vests, for example, is now a thing of the past. Thanks to its IP67 rating, the sensor module is extremely robust, with optimal protection against dust and water. An LED in the sensor window gives instant notification of a low battery level or an activated cleaning stop.
Low water and energy consumption
As the flow of water is triggered by an ultra-precise ToF sensor, this ensures the conservation of valuable resources: water only flows when hands are within the detection range of the sensor. as soon as hands go out of detection range, the flow of water stops automatically. This is an effective way of minimising water consumption. As an additional benefit, cutting hot water consumption also achieves significant savings on the energy needed to heat the water.
Three pre-configured operating modes are also available, including a ‘Save water’ mode. In this mode, the flow of water stops more quickly after hands leave the sensor area, which saves valuable resources and improves operating efficiency.
Improved user hygiene thanks to contactless operation
The contactless operation of the electronic E² faucet series with ToF sensor also optimises user hygiene. By reducing the risk of potential disease transmission via contact infections when the faucet body is touched, this new faucet offers a decisive advantage for sanitary facilities that see particularly heavy use.
