SCHELL SWS Water Management System – flexible and easy to implement, even as a retrofit

With the prize-winning SCHELL SWS Water Management System, all SWS-compatible SCHELL fittings in a building can be centrally networked, controlled and managed. SWS helps to maintain drinking water quality with automated stagnation flushes. Maintenance work, such as replacing the batteries in the fittings, can be planned preventively and effectively.
For operators, using SWS is an intelligent approach to ensuring the efficient and sustainable optimisation of drinking water installations in existing properties. Thanks to the option of networking SWS components flexibly using a wired or wireless connection, existing building infrastructure is easy to modernise without the need for extensive conversion work. Another key advantage in the deployment of SWS is the way in which existing fittings can be simply swapped out for SCHELL fittings that can then be networked with SWS. Pillar taps in particular are simple to replace with new, electronic and SWS-ready SCHELL taps. These taps can be operated either with long-life batteries or a mains adapter, making it easy to adapt them to fit a wide range of on-site scenarios. It is this flexibility that ultimately ensures future-proof facility management in existing properties.

SWS enables the networking, control and management of all networked electronic SCHELL fittings within a building. For retrofits to existing properties in particular, the option of networking SWS components using wireless and/or wired connections is exceptionally useful. If power sockets are in short supply, battery-operated fittings can be installed and then connected wirelessly to the SWS network using a radio link. SWS enables the execution of automated stagnation flushes, which offer support for maintaining drinking water quality. Fittings can also be grouped together, so as to ensure the generation of the turbulent flows in the piping that are needed for a complete exchange of water – as legally required. This also effectively simulates specified normal operation. Incidentally: if necessary, the programming of the SCHELL fittings can be easily modified.
At the heart of the SWS system is the SWS server, which networks together the SWS-compatible SCHELL fittings. The BE-K wired bus extender transfers data to and from the fitting and the SWS server. If a radio link has been selected as a result of building conditions, the BE-F wireless bus extender handles wireless transmission of data between the SWS server and the fitting. Power to the fittings is supplied either via their battery compartment or by using a mains adapter. The SMART.SWS add-on is a browser-based online service that adds remote access to installations from anywhere in the world so as to provide best-in-class control and flexibility. SWS can also be integrated into the central building control system by means of SWS gateways.

The SCHELL SWS Water Management System offers the option of using a stepwise approach to implementation, which makes it ideal for projects that need to be completed using several budget steps or construction stages. In the first phase, electronic, network-ready fittings can be integrated into the drinking water installation. SCHELL offers a wide variety of network-ready fittings for all relevant tapping points within a building.
Electronic fittings obviously need some sort of power supply and SCHELL offers two options here. If outlets are available, then this power can be supplied using mains adapters. If power outlets are not available or are only in short supply, then battery-operated fittings can be used. Fittings can be networked with an SWS server immediately or as part of a later phase in the project.
With wireless connectivity always an option, existing properties can be equipped with an SWS system without needing extensive conversions or the building work necessary for laying data cables. SWS compatibility also allows fittings to be networked either wirelessly or with a wired connection. A mixed network is also possible – which allows flexible adaptation to existing structural conditions on site. This stepwise implementation for SWS can improve the efficiency of an existing property continuously without overburdening the overall budget by requiring a monolithic implementation phase.
