Time-saving, resource-friendly building management with the electronic E² faucets

The most important activities in building management for public sanitary facilities include the upkeep and servicing of sanitary equipment, the maintenance of hygiene standards and continuous operational monitoring. In light of increasing requirements for sustainability, safety and efficiency, modern solutions like the electronic E² faucet generation from SCHELL offer valuable support and productivity benefits for building operators and facility managers. Thanks to intelligent technologies and straightforward controls, plus record-keeping for all networked faucets via the app, work processes can be permanently optimised, valuable resources saved and operating costs reduced into the long term.

Requirements for building management in public sanitary facilities

Efficient operations, compliance with legal provisions and hygienic standards, and resource-friendly water and energy consumption are key requirements for building management in public sanitary facilities. At the same time, steps need to be taken to ensure the smooth operation of sanitary equipment while optimising costs. Tackling these tasks is made significantly easier by modern, digital solutions.

Equipped with Bluetooth® inside, an ultra-precise ToF sensor and other intelligent functions, the E² faucet generation and matching app from SCHELL offer valuable support to local building management teams.

How the E² faucet generation offers day-to-day support to building operators and facility managers

Maintaining drinking water hygiene:

One of the biggest challenges in building management and the operation of public sanitary facilities is maintaining drinking water hygiene. This means making sure that a full exchange of water takes place at least every 72 hours. As with all electronic wash basin taps from SCHELL, the faucets in the E² series offer the option of performing stagnation flushes for the effective prevention of Legionella contamination. With the E² faucet generation, these stagnation flushes can be configured lightning fast in the app. This is especially useful in smaller properties, with up to four buildings and a relatively manageable number of faucets. For larger installations and more than four properties, networking with the SCHELL SWS Water Management System is the ideal choice.

Thanks to the integrated real-time clock and calendar function, stagnation flushes can be planned with the app not just in intervals but also as part of a schedule series. This makes it easy for facility managers to schedule the flush at times when usage is lower than normal. Smart demand-based flushing is also available, which accounts for usage on previous days – offering the perfect symbiosis of drinking water hygiene and saving water. The app can also be used to carry out thermal disinfection on the faucets from a safe distance.

Smart demand-based flushing:

Smart demand-based flushing offers the perfect combination of drinking water hygiene and saving water. After allowing for the level of usage on the faucet, flushes are recalculated daily and only carried out if they are needed to guarantee an exchange of water. Flushing is skipped if usage levels are high enough. This ensures compliance with the 72-hour rule (VDI 6023) even with the barest minimum of water consumption, without wasting water on flushes.

Operational monitoring and logging:

Status monitoring for faucets and sanitary equipment is necessary to detect deviations from normal operation at an early stage. These can include excessive water consumption or battery problems. Logging operating data such as maintenance intervals, water consumption and the stagnation flushes completed also ensures compliance with all of the applicable legal requirements. The app helps out building operators and facility managers here as well: all operating data and faucet statuses can be accessed at any time, and are logged as a continuous and unbroken process. Completed stagnation flushes and calculated water consumption can be viewed in the app at any time. A summary appears at the end of the readout process, which can be exported as a CSV or PDF file. This significantly simplifies the record-keeping process needed for legal compliance.

Monitoring energy and water consumption:

Conserving resources by using modern, water-saving sanitary equipment is an indispensable part of ensuring sustainable operations and reduced operating costs. As the flow of water for faucets in the E² series is triggered with an exact and ultra-precise action thanks to the ToF sensors, water and energy consumption is significantly lower when compared with conventional single-lever mixers. With the pre-configured operating modes ‘Save water’ and ‘Save electricity’, the app also offers another two options for reducing the faucet’s water and energy consumption. Either of these modes takes just a few taps to activate. Thanks to the app, completing the necessary stagnation flushes is also much more economical and cost-effective than flushing by hand – especially with the new, smart demand-based flushing.

Straightforward maintenance and servicing:

Regular inspections and repairs (where necessary) to sanitary facilities and the installed equipment are essential to safeguard error-free operation. The app can be used to check faucet statuses and battery levels at any time. Any required maintenance can be detected early on, so that service work can be planned efficiently and predictably.

Ensuring user hygiene and cleanliness:

In public sanitary facilities, regular and thorough cleaning is essential, so as to maintain the highest possible standards of hygiene. The contactless operation of the E² faucet series minimises the risk of contact infections. The modern housing design of the XERIS E², CELIS E² and PURIS E² faucets is also especially easy to care for and straightforward to clean.

Safety by design:

In sanitary facilities used by vulnerable people, reliable anti-scalding protection is particularly important, so as to protect users from hot water hazards. Ideally, the sanitary equipment installed should also have optimum protection against vandalism and theft. These are also features of the new E² faucet generation: all high-pressure mixed water faucets in the series are equipped with mechanical hot water limiting, which allows individual adjustment of the maximum flow of hot water through the faucet. The XERIS E²-T faucet is also equipped with a ThermoProtect thermostat: this offers reliable, high-precision anti-scalding protection and an instant water stop if the cold water line fails. The recessed flow regulator protects against theft and tampering.
